Summer Medical Spanish Immersion Program

Working effectively with Spanish-speaking patients

Medical Electives Peru is the leading provider of elective rotations and medical Spanish immersion programs in Latin America.  Each month we receive healthcare professionals and final-year medical students.

During the months of June and July each year, we invite students completing their 1st year of medical school to participate in our CME-accredited medical Spanish immersion programs.  This is an excellent opportunity for medical students to develop medical Spanish skills and gain healthcare experience abroad.

Medical Spanish Program

The program is CME accredited with AAFP.  Our team of language teachers and physicians covers both general Spanish and medical Spanish. We teach at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.

Our experienced team of language teachers will help you develop your understanding of Spanish and its everyday use.  The medical Spanish element of the course is taught by physicians who will cover topics including general medicine, emergency medicine, and pediatrics.

Our focus is on helping you to work with Spanish-speaking patients; therefore, you will be practicing a lot of role plays during classes with our physicians.

This intensive language program of 7 hours per day will significantly improve your ability to work with Spanish-speaking patients and communicate in the language outside the consultation room.

Trujillo & Beyond

Trujillo is a colonial city located on the Pacific coast.  In Peru, it is known as the City of Eternal Spring for its mild year-round weather.

During the week you will be busy, with full days.  However, at the weekend, you can investigate the historical centre, visit the coastal resort of Huanchaco (20 minutes away) or perhaps try sandboarding on huge sand dunes near the city.

Weekends are also an opportunity to travel further afield.  This may be trekking in the Andes or visiting tropical beaches.  Of course, many participants will also visit Cusco and Machu Picchu before or at the end of their program with us.
