Medicine for Community Health Fairs

Each month in Trujillo we work with local partners organizing community health fairs in poor communities in and around Trujillo.  Most program participants get involved in these half day campaigns which involves the provision of free consultations and medicine to those in need.

On a health fair you will use the Spanish skills you have been developing on the program, see diverse parts of the city, and, most importantly, be helping those with limited access to medical attention and medicine.

At the health fairs the free medicine provided to patients we purchase in Peru or is brought to Peru by program participants.  If you have access to low cost medicine, that you can bring with you, The Medical Elective Network is happy to reimburse you for any cost of the medicine.

Items our doctors commonly provide include:

  • Tylenol
  • Ibuprofen
  • Benadryl
  • Multivitamins
  • Naprozen
  • Zyrtec
  • Omeprazole
  • Amoxicillin
  • Metformin
  • Keflex
  • Cefadroxil

If you can bring any of the above supplies with you please just bring small amounts.  Bringing large amounts of medicines into Peru can require prior approvals from the Ministry of Health.
