Nutrition Program

We offer nutrition programs designed for students, professional Nutritionists, and Dietitians looking to gain practical experience abroad and develop Spanish language skills.

You can choose to take a community or hospital-based program.  You also have the option of combining the two placements.

The nutrition program is ideal for nutrition students interested in gaining nutrition internships working with Spanish-speaking clients.

Here you will be immersed in the Spanish language taking a CME accredited language program, working in local hospitals and community settings, and seeing patients at our community health fairs.

Community Nutrition Program

For nutritionists looking for a diverse experience, we recommend our community elective. This is our most popular Nutrition program.  Here you will be working with our nutritionist, Iris.

Each day you will spend in a different location, including schools, clinics, mothers’ groups. The work involves individual patient consultations, preparing meals, and group education.

Hospital Program

The hospital nutrition program is for those looking for lots of hospital experience. You will have the opportunity to work with the team of nutritionists at the Hospital of High complexity  in Trujillo or the smaller community hospital, Hospital Florenica

At the hospital, you will spend time dealing with inpatient and outpatient consultations and be involved in all aspects of the nutrition service.

Healthcare Spanish program

Spanish language skills are increasingly valuable for nutritionists working in the United States.  Our medical Spanish program will provide you with the skills needed to work in a healthcare environment with Spanish-speaking patients.

The medical Spanish program is an intensive immersion program with CME accreditation.  We have a team of excellent language teachers who will work to ensure you quickly advance.  The language program is run at beginners, intermediate and advanced levels.

For students with limited Spanish experience, we recommend that they spend the first week or two of their program taking our Intensive language program to develop their confidence.

To complete your immersion into the Spanish language, participants stay with our welcoming homestay families.

Community Health Fairs

All our program participants, and particularly nutritionists, enjoy the Community Health Fairs.  The health fairs take place every week, where we provide free consultations and medicine to people with limited resources.  We always work with local partners, including local municipal authorities, the national police, and the prison service.

Working with the support of local health care professionals and language teachers, you will see numerous clients looking for help and advice across a wide range of nutrition issues.  As well as assisting many people in need, the health fairs are an excellent opportunity to put your professional and developing Spanish language skills into practice.
