Our Arequipa elective takes place at the beautiful Tony Molleapaza Rojas Children’s Hospital, the winner of the prestigious Design & Health best International Health Project 2013.
The hospital is well equipped with the latest technology and a philosophy of providing an holistic approach to health with strong post-operative care.
In the mornings pediatric consultations take place.
In the afternoons there are often children and adult surgeries. 3 hours of intermediate Medical Spanish classes also take place in the afternoons at the hospital
On this elective accommodation is based at the hospital with large and comfortable rooms with bathrooms. Nearby is the bright cafeteria where a good breakfast, lunch and dinner is provided each day.
Please note that the hospital is fairly small. This is one of our quietest location in terms of patient numbers.
The hospital is committed to free surgical missions and this is a great time for students to attend. Forthcoming planned missions include:
- May 8 – May 21, 2016 – A team from Holland performing cleft lip surgeries
- Aug 28 – Sept 10, 2016 – A team from Holland performing urology surgeries
- Oct 23 – Nov 5, 2016 – Plastic surgery mission for children and some adults
- Jan 5 – Jan 18, 2017 – A team from Holland performing cleft lip surgeries
