Surfing Elective in Peru
Trujillo is the ideal location for those who want to surf while taking their elective and medical Spanish program in Peru. The city is located just 20 minutes from the surfing mecca of Huanchaco.
Huanchaco
With great surf all year round and several surf schools, Huanchaco is the place to surf in Peru. This small beach resort is only one of two World Surfing Reserves in South America.
Each year international surf competitions are held on Huanchaco beach attracting some of the best surfers in the world.
When you have finished a morning in the water, you can have lunch and a few beers in one of the many fish restaurants overlooking the ocean.
Chicama
Just 60 minutes from Trujillo is Chicama. It has the longest wave in the world where you can surf non stop for 2.5 kilometers. In 2012 it entered the Guinness Book of Records when a surfer completed 34 turns on a single wave.
Again, in Chicama you can take classes and/or hire surf equipment, and accommodation is available.
